This article said eight bays allow dogs. The official list has 16 dog beaches.
This site lists sixty nine bays across Malta, Gozo and Comino. Twenty five of them have toilets.
Three have showers. Thirty one have nothing at all.
The picture most people have of a Maltese beach comes from the handful that have everything.
What the bays have
Food and drink are available at twenty eight of the sixty nine. Parking is at twenty six.
Toilets at twenty five. Sunbeds and umbrellas can be hired at around eighteen.
Showers exist at three.
So the fully equipped bay is the exception here. Golden Bay has everything on the list, including one of the three showers.
Għadira has nearly all of it. Most of the coast has none of it.
Thirty one have nothing
These are mostly small rocky inlets reached down a track or a set of steps. Ras il-Waħx, Il-Kalanka, Daħlet ix-Xilep, Ir-Ramla tal-Bir and Anchor Bay are all in this group. There is no kiosk, no bin, no toilet and no shade.
That is often the reason to go to them. They are quiet in August in a way the big sandy bays never are.
What to take
Water for the whole visit, because there is nowhere to buy more. Something for shade, since almost none of these have any.
Shoes you can walk over sharp rock in. A bag for your rubbish, because there is nothing to put it in and it stays there otherwise.
Two things worth checking separately
Eleven bays have accessible facilities, which is a much smaller set than the number with toilets. Sixteen are official dog beaches. If either applies to you, the choice narrows a long way and it is worth checking before you set out.
Where the detail is
Every bay page lists what is there and what is not, along with the terrain and the wind exposure. Kiosks at the smaller bays also close outside the summer, so a bay with food in August may have none of it in November.
