Some links on Malta Central earn us a commission. This page explains exactly which ones, what it costs you, and what it does and does not change about what we write.
If you book a tour, a car, a transfer or a ticket through a link here, the supplier pays us a share of their margin. You pay the same price you would have paid going direct. We are not paid to recommend anyone, and no supplier has ever been given a better position for paying more.
How to spot one
Partner links are marked where they appear rather than declared once at the bottom of a page. In the page source they carry rel="sponsored nofollow", the attribute search engines ask for on a paid link. They also look different from ordinary links in the text. Anywhere a block of them appears together, the block itself says so.
Who we work with
We join partner programmes run by travel suppliers and by the networks that represent them. These include tour operators, car hire companies, transfer services, insurers and ticket sellers. When you follow one of these links a cookie records that the visit came from here, so a booking can be credited to us. It is treated as a marketing cookie and does not load at all unless you have agreed to that category. The companies involved are named further down this page, and the ones that set a cookie are named in the cookie policy.
What commission does not buy
- Position in a list
- Lists are ordered by the criteria named on the page. Commission rate is never one of them, and we do not reorder a list because a supplier renegotiated.
- Inclusion at all
- Options with no commission available are recommended on the same terms. Where the best answer is a government ferry or a public bus, the page says so.
- A better description
- Drawbacks are written up whether or not a link earns anything. A partner is criticised where criticism is warranted.
- Protection from a rival
- If something better exists, it goes in, including when it pays us nothing and the incumbent pays well.
If you would rather not
Declining the partner-links category in the cookie banner turns the attribution off entirely. The links still work and still take you to the supplier; we simply do not get credited. Nothing on the site is withheld or degraded as a result, and we will not nag you. You can change your mind at any time from the cookie policy.
Sponsored content and advertising
Commission is not the only way the site earns. Advertising is sold as space on a page, and a sponsored article is paid for by the business it is about. Both are labelled as such wherever they appear, including in listings and feeds rather than only on the piece itself. The rules we hold ourselves to are in the editorial policy.
