Most pharmacies in Malta close on Sundays and public holidays. A schedule of rotating pharmacies keeps a set of them open instead, spread across both islands so that everybody stays within reach of one. Which pharmacies are on it changes with each date.

How it works
What to expect
- The usual hours
- A pharmacy on the schedule opens at least from 9am to noon and again from 4pm to 7pm. Several open longer, and the times on each card are the ones published for that pharmacy on that date.
- Not only Sundays
- Public holidays are covered the same way, and so are the occasional special days. Every date the schedule covers is listed above.
- Areas
- The islands are divided into numbered areas with one pharmacy covering each, which is how the schedule keeps somebody open near you.
- A closed door still helps
- A pharmacy that is shut must display a notice naming the nearest one open. If you are already standing outside one, read the door.
- Longer hours on ordinary days
- Some pharmacies open late or around the clock during the week, including at the airport. Those are separate from this schedule.
- Prescriptions
- A pharmacy on the schedule dispenses as normal. Bring the prescription and an identity document.
The schedule is published in advance and it does change. If you are travelling some distance for one pharmacy in particular, telephone first rather than relying on a page you read earlier in the week.
