Why pages are not signed by a person
Almost nothing on this site is an opinion piece. A page about the single permit, or about which way Għajn Tuffieħa faces, does not change depending on who typed it.
What matters is whether the page is right, when it was last checked, and what it was checked against. All three are on the page.
Pages are also rewritten as things change. A page belongs to the site, so it stays the site’s responsibility instead of going stale when one writer moves on.
How to check the work
A byline you cannot verify proves very little. Every page is built to be checked instead.
- Named sourcesWhere a page rests on an outside authority, that authority is named and linked on the page itself.
- A dated pagePages with facts that expire show the date they were last checked, and what they were checked against.
- Report a mistakeAnyone can report an error. We check the claim against a source before we change anything.
- Photo and data creditsEvery photograph and every data source used on the site is listed on one page.
- No hidden handsNobody outside the site writes here. No guest posts, no supplied articles, no paid placements dressed as editorial.
What is researched first-hand
Malta Central is written in Malta. Pages are built from the bodies that own the facts, not from other travel sites.
Every swimmable bay on the islands has a page, 69 of them, with the shore type, the walk from the road and the winds each bay is open to. The wind exposure is worked out from each bay’s own geography rather than copied from anywhere.
The feast calendar carries all 134 parish feasts, with the dates confirmed against parish and diocesan sources. Fees, permits and timetables are checked against the department or the operator that publishes them.
If the only support for a claim is that other sites also say it, the claim does not go in.
What we do not accept
We do not accept guest articles, contributed posts, link insertions into existing pages, or finished copy from a business about itself. If you represent a company and want to appear on Malta Central, there are two routes. You can take a clearly labelled sponsored piece, or advertising. Both are marked as what they are.
Local knowledge is welcome and often better than ours, but it comes in as information we then check, not as copy we publish. Tell us what you know and we will do the verifying.
