The bay sits at the head of St Paul’s Bay under the Xemxija hill. It is rock and concrete with steps rather than a beach. The water is shallow at the edge and warms quickly, which is why families from the blocks above use it all summer.
It sits at the back of a long inlet, so very little sea reaches it. It stays usable when the outer coast is rough. Nothing is laid on at the water itself, but the Xemxija front, with its shops and its buses, is directly behind.
It is sheltered from the east round to the north. There is no open water on those bearings for a wind to build a swell across. It is open to the north-east to the east-north-east, where the sea runs for kilometres before it reaches this shore. A wind out of the north-north-east has some water to work with but not the full run.
