Għajn Tuffieħa is Golden Bay’s neighbour and its opposite. A long flight of steps drops from the car park to the sand. The climb keeps this bay quieter than the one a few hundred metres away.
The sand is coarse and reddish and the clay ridge above it is undeveloped. The headland between the two bays is a good place to watch the sun go down. There is a kiosk at the top of the steps and somewhere to eat at the southern end. Nothing shades the beach itself, and the walk back up is the part to plan for.
Which winds this bay can take
It is sheltered from the north-north-west round to the west-south-west. There is no open water on those bearings for a wind to build a swell across. It is open to the west to the west-north-west, where the sea runs for kilometres before it reaches this shore. A wind out of the north-west has some water to work with but not the full run.
