The WTTC Global Summit runs from 7 to 9 October at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, bringing over 1,000 travel leaders to Valletta.

The Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta

From 7 to 9 October, Valletta hosts the WTTC Global Summit, the World Travel & Tourism Council’s annual gathering, held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre.

It brings more than 1,000 travel and tourism figures from over 100 countries: chief executives, ministers and investors.

They spend three days on the future of travel.

Not open to the public

This is a delegate summit, not a public event. There is no general admission and no programme aimed at visitors.

What it means for the capital

Valletta will be busier than usual for the three days. Expect extra security around the conference centre, and hotels in the capital and along the harbour full of delegates.

If you are visiting Valletta this week for the usual reasons, expect fuller streets around Republic Street and the bus terminus.

Book a central hotel well ahead if you had not already.

Why Malta

The summit is hosted with the Malta Tourism Authority. It follows Malta’s push to be seen as a voice in European tourism policy, and not only as a destination.

The venue itself has a longer history than the summit: the Mediterranean Conference Centre is built inside the Sacra Infermeria, the Knights’ 16th-century hospital.
