Traditional boats moored in the Grand Harbour below Valletta bastions

The two harbour ferries out of Valletta switch to their winter timetable on 1 November. It runs until 31 May.

The daytime service barely changes. The late crossings stop.

Sliema and Valletta

In winter the first boat leaves Sliema at 06:45. The last leaves Sliema at 19:15, and the last from Valletta at 19:30.

That is 26 crossings each way a day. The summer timetable has 32 and runs past midnight.

The Three Cities and Valletta

The first boat leaves Cospicua at 06:30. The last leaves Cospicua at 19:00, and the last from Valletta at 19:15.

That is 26 crossings each way, against 31 in summer.

Getting back after dinner

From November an evening in Valletta means a bus or a taxi home to Sliema or the Three Cities. The five-minute crossing becomes a drive around the harbour.

The clocks go back a week earlier, on 25 October, so these last boats already run in the dark.

Fares

An adult day ticket is €3 single or €5 return. The night fare starts at 19:30, so the last boat from Valletta to Sliema costs €3.50 single.

Holders of a personalised tallinja card travel free. The times on our ferry page are refreshed every day from the operator’s own timetable.
