Victoria in Gozo has two opera houses on the same street. Each one stages a full opera in October. In 2026 the dates are 17 October at the Aurora and 29 and 31 October at the Astra.
Both run with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and start at 19:30.
La Traviata at Teatru Aurora, Saturday 17 October
Teatru Aurora stages Verdi’s La Traviata for one night only. The production marks the theatre’s 50th anniversary.
Doors open at 18:45. The opera is sung in Italian with English surtitles.
Colin Attard conducts. Zuzana Marková sings Violetta, Rame Lahaj sings Alfredo and Dimitris Tiliakos sings Giorgio Germont.
Seats cost €60, €80 or €100. A box for four costs €550.

Madama Butterfly at Teatru Astra, 29 and 31 October
Teatru Astra stages Puccini’s Madama Butterfly on Thursday 29 October and Saturday 31 October.
John Galea conducts and Enrico Stinchelli directs. Celine Byrne sings Cio-Cio-San, with Leonardo Caimi as Pinkerton.
Seats in the auditorium cost €80 to €85, and the balcony costs €55. Box seats are €100 each.

The two theatres
The Aurora belongs to the Leone band club and the Astra to La Stella. They sit a few doors apart on the same street in Victoria.

Getting there from Malta
The Gozo ferry runs day and night, so you can get back to Malta after the final curtain. Foot passengers do not need to book.
The ferry fare is paid at Mġarr on the way back.

The Traviata night falls on the same Saturday as the Rolex Middle Sea Race start and the Ħamrun Chocolate Festival. Book rooms and cars early for that weekend.
