The summer run of village feasts (festi) is nearly over. From 27 September to the end of the year, 18 are left on the calendar.
Eight fall in October, one in November and seven in December.
The last two in September
- Sunday 27 September: Our Lady of Mellieħa in Mellieħa, and the Stigmata of St Francis of Assisi in Marsa.
October
The first Sunday of the month belongs to Our Lady of the Rosary. Three parishes keep it on the same day.
- Sunday 4 October: Our Lady of the Rosary in Gudja, Mellieħa and Sliema.
- Saturday 10 October: Our Lady of the Rosary in Marsa, and in Valletta at the church of St Dominic.
- Sunday 11 October: St Francis of Assisi in Sliema.
- Tuesday 13 October: the Pilgrimage of the Last Apparition in Gwardamanġa.
- Sunday 25 October: Our Lady of Consolation in Gudja.
Gudja holds three feasts before the year ends, more than any other village. The other two are on 4 October and 13 December.
November and December
- Sunday 15 November: St John of the Cross in Ta’ Xbiex.
- Tuesday 8 December: the Immaculate Conception in Cospicua, Ħamrun and Mqabba, and Mary Immaculate, Mother of the Church, in Tal-Ibraġ.
- Sunday 13 December: Our Lady of Loreto in Gudja, St Lucy in Mtarfa and the Expecting Virgin Mary in St Paul’s Bay.
Both December dates are public holidays. 8 December is the feast of the Immaculate Conception and 13 December is Republic Day.
On both days banks and most shops close, and the buses run a Sunday timetable.
Before you go
The date is fixed, but each parish sets its own programme every year. Call the parish office for the times of the procession and the fireworks.
Every date and every parish number is on the feast calendar. If you have not been to one, read what a feast (festa) is first.
