Phones and computers change by themselves. Car clocks and wall clocks do not.

Mornings get lighter. Sunrise moves from 07:15 to 06:16.

The evenings keep shortening after that. The earliest sunsets of the year come in the first ten days of December, at 16:49.

What the change means for your day

A late swim or a cliff walk has to start earlier. From 25 October the sun is down by quarter past five.

Sunset spots fill an hour earlier too. Where to watch the sun rise and set lists the best places.

The harbour ferries move to their winter timetable a week later, on 1 November. The last crossings are much earlier, and the times are on the ferry page.

When summer time returns

The clocks go forward again on the last Sunday in March. In 2027 that is 28 March.
