Xlendi is held between two headlands, which is why it stays swimmable when much of the west coast of Gozo is not. The sand is a short strip at the head of the bay and most people swim off the rock and concrete either side of it.
A path cut along the southern cliff leads to the old watchtower and a set of ladders into deep water. It takes about ten minutes. The village behind the beach is essentially one street of restaurants and it is busy from June to September. Parking is the difficulty, and the closer to the water you try, the less of it there is.

It is sheltered from the west round to the south-west. There is no open water on those bearings for a wind to build a swell across. It is open to the west-south-west, where the sea runs for kilometres before it reaches this shore.
