San Niklaw is the bay beside the old Comino hotel. People walk here for the same water as the Blue Lagoon, without the boats and the crowds.
The sand strip is small. The bottom is sand and weed rather than the white shelf that gives the lagoon its colour, but the water is just as clear. There are no facilities of any kind. It is about fifteen minutes on foot from the lagoon across the middle of the island, with no shade on the way.
Which winds this bay can take
It is sheltered from the north-east round to the north-north-west. There is no open water on those bearings for a wind to build a swell across. It is open to the north-north-east, where the sea runs for kilometres before it reaches this shore. A wind out of the north has some water to work with but not the full run.

Measured as metres of open water on each bearing out from the shore. This is the bay’s own geography and it does not change; whether it is swimmable this afternoon is the reading at the top of the page, which also weighs how hard the wind is actually blowing.
