This is the rock under the Tigné bridge, looking straight across Marsamxett at the Valletta bastions. It has one of the best views from the water in Malta. The shore is flat limestone with ladders, and the water is deep and clean despite the harbour setting.
Nothing reaches it with enough open water behind it to build a swell, so it works on days when the north-west coast is unusable. Everything in Sliema is a few minutes away. There is no sand and no shade, and finding a parking space at Tigné is a project of its own.
Which winds this bay can take
It is sheltered from the south-south-east, the south-west to the west-south-west and the north-west round to the east. There is no open water on those bearings for a wind to build a swell across. A wind out of the east-south-east to the south-east, the south to the south-south-west and the west to the west-north-west has some water to work with but not the full run.

Measured as metres of open water on each bearing out from the shore. This is the bay’s own geography and it does not change; whether it is swimmable this afternoon is the reading at the top of the page, which also weighs how hard the wind is actually blowing.

Struck through means it is not there. Facilities at a Maltese bay are seasonal more often than not, so treat summer as the best case.
