Ta’ Xbiex is the promenade along the inside of Marsamxett harbour, with the yacht marina on one side and Manoel Island opposite. People swim from the rock along the front, mostly early in the morning before the boat traffic starts.
The harbour absorbs almost all the swell, so the water here stays flat when the open coast is too rough to swim in. It is a harbour swim rather than a scenic one, and the water is not as clear as it is outside. Everything along the front is a few steps away.
Which winds this bay can take
It is sheltered from the east round to the west-north-west and the north-north-west round to the north-east. There is no open water on those bearings for a wind to build a swell across. It is open to the east-north-east, where the sea runs for kilometres before it reaches this shore. A wind out of the north-west has some water to work with but not the full run.

Measured as metres of open water on each bearing out from the shore. This is the bay’s own geography and it does not change; whether it is swimmable this afternoon is the reading at the top of the page, which also weighs how hard the wind is actually blowing.
